You are wrong buddy, you can get HiDef from over the air signal. I am getting that right now. This all changed recently since the government started out the new program forcing TV stations to change. Look it up on the net and you will see.

This is SOOO crazy!! I was super skeptical about this, but decided to give it a shot today. I can’t believe it immediately pulled in 31 channels (14 HD, and 17 SD). That’s even with it just sitting beside the TV like the guy in video… once I manuevre it around a bit I hope to get more.

I did change a few things… used ABS plastic piping instead of wood and used bare copper single strand wire instead of coat hangers. Still looks hideous but so does my $80/month cable bill

Okay, I made this antenna a few weeks ago but I have noticed that it MUST be close to the window to work and the tv still kinda skips when someone is walking through my apartment. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? I really hate having to move it in front of the window when I want to watch tv and then move it back when I’m done.

RadioShack. Ask for a UHF/VHF transformer. They might be a bit confused at first but they do have them. They’re $7.

Would this work as a mobile TV antenna, for use in a moving car?

  8. glk001 says:

Well, isn’t all that easy to get that knd of reception…I think you sugar coat it a bit..Although it does work and as well as any other indoor antenna, position is everything if you don’t live under the towers…Put it a corner and behind the TV, just doesn’t work in most locations…Use copper wire, coat hangers RUST…

No you don’t. Anyone can buy an HDTV antenna and get HDTV for free in the US, Canada, or anywhere the signals are broadcast. LMAO

  13. sirnicholson says:

Thanks for this! I could get zero channels w/o an antenna and with this antenna I am now picking up seven.

Thanks for the tip on 12 gauge copper. I have a ton of it. As far as weatherproof, the copper will oxidize for sure with wet weather. You might try to put it in your attic. If you use soldier for the connections, the connections will not oxidize, and you might be able to place it outside (even with the exposed copper and oxidation it would take years to destroy the copper, just remember to soldier the joints(

  17. TJHassis says:

The Chrome hangers that “look clean” may Oxidize depending many factors. Aluminum oxidizes almost with instand contact with exposure to air. You might try the steel based hangers. I am looking for a similara solution. All of our channels are 26 miles from each tower, so this is new to me as well, even though I’ve been in electronics for some 35 years.

  18. amazingdany says:

TIP FOR EVERYBODY: you might get better reception with an amplifier. I got a cheap one at The Source and it helped getting extra channels.

Also, even if you don’t have a hdtv, it will work for square, bulky ones too.

  19. jonrite says:

    23 Channels, all crystal clear.
I have to admit I was skeptical about this, but it works much better than any store-bought antenna I’ve ever bought.
Thanks again, you saved me a lot of money.

  20. ucbedge says:

Unfortunately, this didnt work for me. I live about 21 miles away from a broadcast tower. Have always had problems getting OTA reception, so I thought why not try this?

I followed the directions, except I didnt clean off the hangers since I bought ones that were plated in chrome instead of white paint. Unforutnately, I get nothing……back to the drawing board!

  21. m0mcx says:

This will work pretty good in my opinion, it’s nicely constructed – but it does need to “point” towards the transmitter. I make lots of antennas. Do a Google search for “UHF Yagi antenna”. Lots of ideas for free antennas, it’s not difficult. Many commercial antennas “look” complicated so that you think they’ll work better. Not so – they’re all pretty simple based on a basic math formula.

  22. leftisright says:

Do these work as well or better than the rabbit ear or flat antennas? And as I am in a bungalow, is putting it up in the attic (only an extra 10 feet of elevation) have any affect?

  23. UserIsAnFBIAgent says:

haven’t we switched to Digital now…? I mean I thought we weren’t able to do this anymore..? If this is still possible, I might want to do this…

  24. Psilo619 says:

I’ve made two of these, they work great. been using them for almost 2 years. i get more HD channels with this antenna than with store bought ones.
i put them both in my attic space so they’re out of site.
